2012 GLIAC Women's Tennis Tournament
MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University Women's Tennis team ended their season strong today (Oct. 28), by defeating Ohio Dominican University 5-2 in the Seventh Place Match at the 2012 GLIAC Women's Tennis Tournament.
The Cardinals were dominant in doubles play today winning all three matches to start off with a 3-0 advantage. Charlotte Wong (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island / Colonel Gray Senior High) and Katie Piorkowski (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) defeated their opponents in No. 3 doubles, 8-5. The next Cardinal victory came from the No. 2 duo of Meghan Woody (Midland, Mich./Dow HS) and Erin Doud (Northville, Mich. / Northville HS) who took their match 8-1. Grabbing the point in No. 1 doubles was Yunjiao Shangguan (Chengdu, China / Shiyang HS) and Kelli Close (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow HS) by a score of 8-1.
Erin Doud picked up another win in her No. 5 singles match, defeating her Panther opponent, 6-4 6-3. Picking up the fifth and final point for Saginaw Valley was senior Theresa Frederick (Saginaw, Mich. / Bay City Western HS) in No. 6 singles, sneaking past for a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory.
With the win the Cardinals take seventh place in the GLIAC Tournament and finish with a 10-8 record overall and 8-6 in the conference.
