Men's Swimming & Diving Will Join Athletics Lineup In 2015

UNIVERSITY CENTER - Saginaw Valley State University and Head Swimming & Diving Coach, Bruce Zimmerman, are excited to announce the formation of the first intercollegiate men's swimming and diving program in SVSU history! Competition is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2015 and recruiting for the new men's team is underway!

SVSU currently sponsors an intercollegiate women's swimming & diving program that began its inaugural season in the fall of 2014. Both programs will compete in the highly competitive NCAA Division-II Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The goals of both programs are very high. First and most important, Saginaw Valley State University is committed to provide all students the opportunity to receive a quality education and earn a college degree. The goal of the swimming & diving program is to maintain a 100% graduation rate and be the top team academically in the athletic department. Athletically it is the goal of the program to consistently compete at an elite level on the conference and national stage.

A Message from Head Coach,  Bruce Zimmerman

As a coach I strive to provide opportunities for my student athletes to excel academically and athletically in an environment that stresses hard work, honesty, integrity and a strong desire to achieve one's goals. I see myself as a teacher, motivator, guidance counselor, and mentor for the student athletes I have the opportunity to work with. Through the sport of swimming and diving, I strive to create an environment that helps my athletes develop the skills, values, emotional strength, and philosophies that will help them be successful later in life.  My number one priority is to have all of the athletes in our program get a quality education and graduate from Saginaw Valley State University. Secondly, I work very hard to provide a swimming and diving program that will give our athletes the opportunity to achieve their personal athletic goals. Finally, I want our team members to have a life outside of their academic and athletic endeavors. To accomplish these goals, we will provide a balanced program so all of our student athletes can have a fulfilling and positive college experience. My coaching style is very simple. I am very honest and straightforward with my team members and I expect them to be the same with me. I expect the members of my team to give 100% every day, academically and athletically, and I expect my team members to make responsible, mature decisions socially so they are putting themselves in a position to perform at their best every day. Ultimately, I expect everyone to represent Saginaw Valley State University and our program with pride and honor.
