UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team recorded its third win of the season tonight (Nov. 23), defeating Olivet College by a score of 75-62.
The Cardinals would enter the locker room with a 31-28 advantage, as sophomore Greg Foster (Indianapolis, Ind. / T.C. Howe) led the way with nine points, and sophomore Sean Romsek (Fowlerville, Mich) added seven. Meijer "Player of the Game" Keithan Jackson (Grand Rapids, Mich.) pulled down eight rebounds and had six points in the opening perior for Saginaw Valley. As a team, the Cardinals shot five-for-seven from the free thrown line.
Saginaw Valley came out strong in the second half going up as many as 16 with 2:46 left in the game. Jackson led the way for the Cardinals in the second half with 22 points and six rebounds. Chris Webb (Saginaw, Mich. / Arthur Hill HS) added nine points, while Foster and sophomore Josh Eisenga (McBain, Mich.) both tacked on six points for SVSU.
Jackson ended the night leading all scorers and rebounders with 28 points and 14 rebounds, while Foster had 15 points and four rebounds and Webb had 12 points. Eisenga and junior Dan Genther (Laingsburg, Mich.) both ended the night with 5 rebounds for the Cardinals. Saginaw Valley shot 15-for-20 from the free throw line as well in the contest.
With the win, Saginaw Valley improves to 3-0 overall on the season, while Olivet falls to 0-3. The Cardinals will be back in action on Monday (Nov. 30) when they host Urbana University. Tipoff is set for 7:00 pm.
