FINDLAY, Ohio – The Saginaw Valley State University women's golf team finished 12th out of 18 teams at the William Beall Fall Classic, completing the three-round tournament at Findlay Country Club with a team score of 957 (+93).
The Cardinals posted rounds of 323 (+35), 308 (+20), and 326 (+38) against a 96-player field.
Christina Nagy (Macedonia, Ohio, Nordonia HS) led Saginaw Valley with a tie for 35th at 20-over-par 236. Nagy opened with a 77 (+5), matched that score in the second round, and closed with an 82 (+10). She was particularly strong on the par threes throughout the tournament, tying for the best mark in the field at even par with a 3.00 scoring average. Nagy recorded birdies on No. 8 and No. 15 in the opening round, Nos. 4 and 6 during round two, and added another on the par-three sixth hole in the final round.
Marissa GeRue (Fort Wayne, Ind., Carroll HS) finished one stroke behind Nagy, tying for 40th at 21-over-par 237. After an opening-round 83 (+11), GeRue carded SVSU's best round of the tournament with a 74 (+2) in round two. She recorded four birdies during the round, including three over her final three holes. GeRue closed the tournament with an 80 (+8).
Anna McCubbins tied for 52nd at 27-over-par 243 following rounds of 83 (+11), 78 (+6), and 82 (+10). Her second round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-four 10th, helping her play the back nine at one-over-par 37.
Averie Pumford (Freeland, Mich., Freeland HS) finished tied for 55th at 28-over-par 244. Pumford opened with an 83 (+11) before improving to a 79 (+7) in round two and an 82 (+10) in the final round. Her closing round featured birdies on Nos. 5 and 16.
Mayson Southland (Mona Shores, Mich., Mona Shores HS) rounded out the Cardinal lineup in a tie for 70th at 38-over-par 254. Southland carded rounds of 80 (+8), 92 (+20), and 82 (+10). Her opening round included a birdie on the par-four 16th.
As a team, Saginaw Valley ranked fifth in the field in par-three scoring at 3.37 (+22) and seventh with 143 pars. Nagy's even-par performance on the par threes tied for the best individual mark among the 96 golfers.
