Cardinals Tied for 10th After First Day of NCAA Regional #1

CALUMET CITY, Ill. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team traveled to the first NCAA Regional event of the year, participating in the first round on Monday (9/29).  This year's first regional tourney is being hosted by Lewis University at the Harborside International Golf Course, which features a "Port" course and a "Starboard" course.

Playing the par-72, 6,928 yard Starboard course on day one, the Cardinals shot an opening round score of 299 (+11).  The score puts them in a tie for 10th place with the University of Illinois-Springfield.  Malone University owns the first round lead after a score of 291, eight strokes ahead of SVSU.

Eight of the top 12 teams in the first day's standings played the Starboard course.

Senior Carter Marsh paced the Cards in the opening round.  Marsh shot a first round score of 71 (-1), marking his second under-par round in his past three rounds.  He is in a tie for 7th place overall.

Fellow senior Micah Skidmore had a 74 (+2) in his first round and is tied in the 26th slot overall.  Sophomore Ryan Peruski carded a 75 (+3) in his opening 18 holes, putting him in a tie for 43rd.

Wyatt Drost (79) and Taylor Walker (79) rounded-out the scoring for SVSU.

The team will tackle the par-72, 6,956 yard Port Course on Tuesday morning, looking to make a move in the 34-team, 169 player field.
