LACONIA, Ind. – Saginaw Valley State University men's golf competed in the Findlay/UIndy Intercollegiate, hosted by Findlay and UIndy, on Monday and Tuesday. The Cardinals played three rounds at Chariot Run Golf Course, finishing ninth with rounds of 306 (+18), 309 (+21), and 304 (+16) for a total of 919 (+55).
Garrett Morrison led the Cardinals, tying for 25th place out of 52 golfers. He carded rounds of 74 (+2), 77 (+5), and 76 (+4) for a three-round total of 227 (+11). Ben Yono followed three strokes behind with rounds of 77 (+5), 78 (+6), and 75 (+3) to finish at 230 (+14). Yono highlighted his final round with eight consecutive pars on the front nine.
Evan Klein, Tony Spicuzza, and Dominik Dostal rounded out the lineup, all finishing within three strokes of each other. Klein posted a total of 233 (+17) with rounds of 79 (+7), 76 (+4), and 78 (+6), recording one of the team's three eagles—all of which came on the par-five 18th hole. Spicuzza finished two strokes back at 235 (+19) after rounds of 82 (+10), 78 (+6), and 75 (+3). Dostal recorded the other two eagles and finished with a total of 236 (+20) after rounds of 76 (+4), 78 (+6), and 82 (+10).
As a team, SVSU tied for the second-most eagles with three and tied for fifth in pars with 149. The Cardinals also ranked third on par threes, averaging 3.35 strokes per hole (+21). Morrison shot even on par threes, tying for the best mark in the tournament, while Dostal tied for the second-most eagles individually.
Up Next: Saginaw Valley men's golf has a week off before competing at the Bill Blazer Invitational, hosted by Ohio Dominican, on Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12. The tournament will be held at Lancaster Golf Club in Lancaster, Ohio.
