SAGINAW, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team has recently been lending a helping hand at the local City Rescue Mission in Saginaw, Mich.  

The Cardinals have been volunteering their time at the mission and have contributed over 70 hours of service while serving as a 'clean-up crew', peeling 1,500 apples that were going to be used for Thanksgiving meal desserts and helping out with whatever else needs to be done around the facility.

"Saginaw Valley State University is such an important part of this region and we feel that it is important for our program to reach out to the surrounding communities and show our support like so many others do for us," stated SVSU Assistant Coach Corky Thompson, who has been accompanying the student-athletes on their mission trips.  "Our guys get a chance to meet a great variety of wonderful people and participate in various projects that help shape their character as well."

The baseball team is not finished with their trips to the mission, as the guys will continue their visits through the semester break and until their season kicks into gear.
