BEDFORD, Ind. - The Saginaw Valley State
University men's soccer team defeated Oakland City University 1-0
today (Sept. 4). This marked the first career win for head
coach Cale Wassermann.
Freshman Noah
Sawyer (East Lansing, Mich. / Haslett HS) scored his first
collegiate goal for Saginaw Valley when he found the back of the
net off a pass from Taylor Clarke
(Cary, Ill. / Cary-Grove HS). The one goal would be enough as
the Cardinal defense was able to stop Oakland City from scoring and
give senior goaltender Piotr Kazmierczak
(Stargard, Poland) his first shut-out of the season.
With the win Saginaw Valley improves to 1-1 overall on the
season, while Oakland City falls to 1-2 overall on the
season. The Cardinals will return to action when they travel
to Northwood on Wednesday (Sept. 8) for their first GLIAC (Great
Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) contest of the
season. The game is scheduled to start at 4:30pm.
