CaleWassermann was named head coach of the Saginaw Valley StateUniversity men's soccer team on December 21, 2009. He is a formerSVSU standout, and returns to SVSU from Lewis University, aDivision II school that competes in the Great Lakes ValleyConference (GLVC).
2013: In 2013 the men's soccer team continued their success, finishingthe season with an 11-4-5 overall record and a 8-2-4 record in theGLIAC. This placed them 3rd in the conference and reservedthem a spot in the GLIAC Tournament where they lost 2-1 in a doubleovertime thriller to Ohio Dominican in the finals. TheCardinals stay on track to continue their success in the 2014season, returning the 2013 GLIAC "Offensive Player of the Year"Tyler Channell and "Freshman of the Year" Jordan Kalk.
2012:The 2012 SVSU men's soccer team enjoyed a historic trip to the NCAADII National Championship game for the first time in schoolhistory. SVSU set school records for both wins in a season (18) andat home (10) as they claimed their second straight GLIACChampionship and NCAA Tournament apperance. Seven Cardinals earnedAll-GLIAC honors including Zach Myers who was named Player of theYear. Four players also earned NSCAA All-Region honors; LachlanSavage, Michael Lamb, Jason Wise and Zach Myers, while Myers andWise also earned All-Academic honors as well from the NSCAA. ZachMyers and Jason Wise also became the first two players in programhistory to be named All-Americans, with Myers earning bothDaktronics Inc. and NSCAA honors and Wise earning NSCAA honors.Myers would also be named a Capital One Academic All-American andthe 2012 NSCAA National "Player of the Year." Head coach CaleWassermann was named GLIAC Coach of the Year, NSCAA Midwest RegionCoach of the Year and also NSCAA National Coach of the Year as heguided Saginaw Valley to its first ever NCAA Championship game inhis third season.
2011: The 2011 SVSU men's soccer team had themost successful season in school history. Finishing with a recordof 12-5-3, the Cardinals won their first ever GLIAC Championshipand also made their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. FiveCardinals received All-GLIAC recognition including Tyler Channellwho was the lone freshman in the conference to be selectedAll-GLIAC. Zach Myers and Zach Walega were also selected to theAll-Region teams. Coach Wassermann received GLIAC Coach of the Yearhonors and Zach Myers was named GLIAC Defensive "Player of theYear" as he helped the defense give up just 18 goals in 19games.
2010: The Cardinals soccer program finishedwith a 9-6-3 record in coach Wassermann's debut season as headcoach. Four members of the men's soccer team earned All-GLIAChonors, include Noah Sawyer who became the first freshman in schoolhistory to be named All-GLIAC. Anthony Palazzolo, PiotrKazmierczak, and Zach Myers were also selected to All-Regionteams.
Wassermannwas an assistant coach at Lewis University for the 2008 and‘09 seasons. In 2008, Wassermann's Lewis Flyer teamadvanced to the NCAA Regional Final before being eliminated in apenalty shootout to eventual Final Four participant, NorthernKentucky University. In 2009, the Flyers returned to theRegional Championship game and defeated the #2 ranked team in thecountry, Drury University. Wassermann and the Flyerswent all the way to the NCAA DII Final Four, being eliminated in ashootout to Lees-McRae. Lewis would finish the season ranked#3 in the NCAA DII Rankings.
Whileat Lewis, Wassermann coached players who were recognized withconference, regional, and national accolades. Ten playerswent on to receive All-GLVC honors, as well as 10 players receivingAll-Region honors. Three of Wassermann's players earnedAll-America honors, including First-Team All-American Cory Masteyand three-time All-American Nestor Hernandez. In 2009,Wassermann helped coach his players to the GLVC "Freshman of theYear", Midwest Region "Most Outstanding Defensive Player", andMidwest Region "Most Outstanding Offensive Player" honors. In 2008and 2009, Wassermann coached two different goalkeepers, AnthonySzymel and Sebastian Kieruzal, who each led the NCAA in savepercentage in their respective seasons. In 2006 and 2007, Wassermann was a volunteer assistant coach forthe men's soccer team at Saginaw Valley State, focusing on playerdevelopment. He has experience at many quality soccer camps,including camps at Michigan State, Western Michigan, LynnUniversity, Lewis University, the Mid-Michigan Soccer Academy andthe Tom Anagnost Soccer Camp. In 2006, he served as the HeadCoach of the junior varsity boy's soccer team at Saginaw HeritageHigh School and was the head trainer for the 2007 Saginaw StingU-17 Boys travel team and Saginaw Township Soccer Association'syouth teams.
Wassermann played four years of soccer at Saginaw Valley StateUniversity, graduating in 2007 with a bachelor's of arts degree inCommunication. He was team captain and named First Team All-GreatLakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in 2004 and2005.
After college, Wassermann spent four months traveling and attended training sessions and matches in Argentina for clubssuch as Boca Juniors and San Lorenzo, as well as traveling toUruguay, Venezuela, and Israel. In high school, he was namedfirst team All-State twice.
Wassermann,who holds a United States Soccer Federation National CoachingLicense, also worked towards a Master's degree in OrganizationalLeadership with a focus in higher education at Lewis.
