ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
University volleyball team fell by a 3-0 score at the hands of the
18th-ranked Grand Valley State University Lakers on Tuesday night
(10/26). The loss drops the Cardinals to 11-10 overall and
6-8 in the GLIAC while the Lakers improve to 17-5 overall and 13-2
in league play.
The Lakers came out with a 25-20 victory in set one, and would
take sets two and three by scores of 25-21 and 25-19,
respectively.
Junior Annie Buxton
(Aurora, Ont./Aurora SS) led the offensive attack with 14 kills
while adding 13 digs defensively. Fellow junior Katie
Fitzgerald (Whitby, Ont./Sinclair SS) earned Chili's "Player of
the Match" honors while hitting for a match-best .381 percentage
while recording nine kills. Junior Laura Ward (White
Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) had 18 digs for the Cardinals while
sophomore setter Sam Breault (Bad
Axe, Mich.) had a match-high 35 assists to go along with 13 digs on
the defensive end.
The Cardinals return home for a pair of matches this weekend
against Ohio Dominican on Friday at 7:00 pm and Tiffin on Sunday in
a 2:00 pm match-up. The matches will include SVSU's annual
"Dig for a Cure" festivities, in which the Cardinals will wear pink
warm-up T-shirts and will be selling shirts to raise funds for the
Dig for a Cure Foundation. Game programs will also be
available for a $1 donation to the Foundation.
