Cardinals Take Down Purdue Northwest

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team earned its third straight GLIAC victory, defeating Purdue Northwest 3–1 on Friday afternoon at Pepsi Field.

The Cardinals (5-3-2, 3-2-1 GLIAC) scored twice in the opening half to take control. In the 24th minute, Kaley Douglass (Williamston, Mich. / Williamston HS) opened the scoring with her first goal of the season. Just under four minutes later, Sophia Zalucki (Washington Twp., Mich. / Romeo HS) doubled the lead in the 27th minute, finishing a combination play assisted by Abby Ellis (Waterford, Mich. / Waterford Mott HS) and Emma Bradley (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston HS).

Purdue Northwest pulled one back in the 49th minute when Mia Davis scored from close range to make it 2–1. The Cardinals responded ten minutes later, as Lauryn Fracassi (Grandville, Mich. / Grandville HS) netted her third goal of the year off a feed from Emily Kolodin (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc HS) to restore the two-goal cushion.

SVSU outshot PNW 14–12, putting seven on goal. The Cardinals held a 7–5 advantage in corner kicks and were called offside four times. Goalkeeper Lainey Garbarz (Pinckney, Mich. / Father Gabriel Richard HS) recorded three saves to earn her fifth win of the season.

The match featured eight combined fouls and one yellow card, issued to Purdue Northwest in the 87th minute.
