UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team hosted No. 4 Grand Valley State on Friday afternoon at Robert C. Braddock Field, falling 2–0 in its GLIAC opener.

The Cardinals (2-2-1) defended for long stretches and kept the match within reach behind senior goalkeeper Lainey Garbarz (Pinckney, Mich. / Father Gabriel Richard HS), who registered seven saves—three in the first half and four after the break. The Lakers scored both their goals just under six minutes into each half, taking the lead in the 6th minute and extending it in the 51st.

Chances were limited for SVSU, which finished with three shots and five corner kicks (one in the first half, four in the second). Grand Valley State totaled 12 shots with nine on target and earned five corners. Fouls were 6–10, and SVSU was flagged offside twice. Lauryn Fracassi (Grandville, Mich. / Grandville HS), Kylie Cesarek (Macomb, Mich. / Dakota HS), and Sophia Miller Chesterfield, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse HS North) figured into the attack with a shot each.

Up Next: Saginaw Valley are back at home on Sunday, September 21. The Cardinals host the Davenport Panthers at 1:00 PM EDT at Robert C. Braddock Field.
