Garbarz Stops Nine as Women’s Soccer Defeats Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team collected a 3–1 road win at the University of Findlay on Sunday afternoon at DeHaven Field. Lainey Garbarz (Pinkney, Mich. / Father Gabriel Richard HS) stopped a season-high nine shots in the win.

The Cardinals (2-1-1) struck immediately, as Lauryn Fracassi (Grandville, Mich. / Grandville HS) scored just 26 seconds in off a feed from Emily Kolodin (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc HS). After Findlay pulled level in the 19th minute, SVSU reclaimed the lead when Abby Ellis (Waterford, Mich. / Waterford Mott HS) found the net in the 29th. Madi Bajis (Macomb, Mich. / Utica HS) sealed the result in the 68th with her third goal of the season, giving the Cardinals a two-goal cushion.

SVSU was efficient with its opportunities, scoring three times on just seven shots, four of which were on target. Findlay generated 14 shots, including 10 on goal as Garbarz stopped seven in the first half and both of the second half chances. The Cardinals got more corners in the second half with two to the Oilers one, but Findlay had four set piece opportunities in the first half. Fouls were nearly even with SVSU committing nine and Findlay six, and three yellow cards were issued in the second half.
