UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team fell to Hillsdale, 70-58, in their final non-conference game of the season. It was a back-and-forth game but the Chargers pulled away from SVSU (3-7) in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
Meijer Player of the Game, Lydia Meredith (Portland, Mich. / Portland St. Patrick's HS), had over 20 points for the second straight game. She led the team against Hillsdale with 22 points, eight rebounds, six steals, and four assists. She also led the team, going 9-of-10 from the charity stripe.
Meredith and Megan McCalla (Chelsea, Mich. / Chelsea HS), led SVSU in the first half, combining for 19 of the Cardinals' 24 first-half points. McCalla finished the game with 13 points and seven rebounds. The Saginaw Valley defense boosted the Cardinals' to a one-point halftime lead with two blocks and seven steals.
Kaitlyn Geurink (Hamilton, Mich. / Hamilton HS) exploded in the third quarter for SVSU, scoring 12 of her 13 points in that frame. The Cardinals hit all four of their threes in the second half, with one each from Meredith, Geurink, Chloe Kilbride (Perrysburg, Ohio / Perrysburg HS), and Lauren Borsenik (Hemlock, Mich. / Hemlock HS).
UP NEXT: Saginaw Valley State is off until after the New Year. They have their GLIAC home-opener vs Wayne State on January 2 at 1:00 PM (ET) in James E. O'Neill Arena.
