UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University softball collected both weekly awards given out by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) on Monday afternoon. Junior transfer pitcher Macy Irelan was honored as the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week and sophomore transfer Lillia Sherman was named the GLIAC Player of the Week.
Irelan had a stellar debut weekend for the Cardinals as she made two appearances in the circle, completing both contests. She pitched for 12.2 innings and held a 3.32 ERA. She leads the GLIAC with 23 strikeouts while having a 12.71 K/7 mark after two starts. Irelan also leads the league with the lowest opposing batting average of .163 with one of her starts coming against the 11th-ranked team in the country.
Sherman also enjoyed a fantastic debut weekend for SVSU. She leads the league with her .556 batting average, 1.000 slugging percentage, and 1.556 OPS. Sherman tied for a team-best four RBI through the first four games with a home run and a double to her credit. All four of her RBI came in game one of the doubleheader at 11th-ranked North Georgia where she was just a triple away from hitting the cycle.
The Cardinals head to Melbourne, Florida for the Spring Break games and will kick off the trip with two games against Bridgeport at Viera Regional Park Field 1 at 3:00 p.m. (ET).
