Cardinals Dominate to Advance to GLIAC Championship Match

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team advanced to the GLIAC Championship with a 3–1 victory over Davenport University on Friday morning at Robert C. Braddock Field.

The Cardinals (11–2–4) took control early and never looked back, scoring twice in the opening half and adding a third in the second to punch their ticket to Sunday's title match.

Eoin Farrell (Athy, Ireland / Ardscoil na Tríonóide) put SVSU on the board in the seventh minute, converting a penalty kick after a foul inside the box for his eighth goal of the season. In the 36th minute, Lui Ingavi (Kapsara, Kenya / Montverde Academy) doubled the advantage after Nick Kay (Walled Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Central HS) launched a deep kick. The ball was headed on and Ingavi chipped it over the sliding Panther keeper to net the second goal of the match.

Matty Telfer (Newcastle, England / Sunderland College) extended the lead to 3–0 in the 65th minute, connecting with Farrell with a left-footed shot that beat the keeper low right. The Panthers spoiled the shutout in the 80th minute as Payton Wright scored off an assist from Drew Matyunas, but the Cardinals closed out the remaining minutes to secure the win.

SVSU outshot Davenport 22–11 and held an 8–7 edge in shots on goal while earning nine corner kicks to the Panthers' four. Kay made six saves in net to while Davenport's Beau Hudd stopped five shots.
