UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team capped the regular season with a Senior Day 2–0 win over St. Cloud State on Friday. The victory secured SVSU's seventh GLIAC regular-season championship after Roosevelt fell 2–1 at Northern Michigan. Saginaw Valley honored six seniors before the match including Connor Beach (Caledonia, Mich. / Caledonia HS), Logan Kunnen (Jenison, Mich. / Unity Christian HS), Kolja Thomas (Butjadingen, Germany / Zinzendorschule Tossens), Eoin Farrell (Athy, Ireland / Ardscoil na Tríonóide), Ryan Bovee (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston HS), and Liam Zimmerman (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston HS).
The Cardinals (10–2–4, 9–2–1 GLIAC) scored twice in the second half while posting their eighth shutout of the season.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Angel Aguilera (Elkhart, Ind. / International Soccer Academy of America) broke through in the 62nd minute, scoring his first collegiate goal to put the Cardinals ahead. Adrian Hatman (Chisinau, Moldova / ULIM) doubled the lead in the 69th minute, bending a shot into the top right corner of the goal from outside the area. Aguilera added an assist on the goal for this third point of the match.
SVSU was outshot 8-7 but capitalized on their only two shots on goal. Beach got the start for Senior Day, swapping with Kay after the opening kick. Kay made two saves in 83 minutes before Beach came back in to secure the clean sheet with a save in the final minutes.
Up Next: With the GLIAC title clinched, Saginaw Valley earns the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament and will host a GLIAC semifinals on Friday, November 14 at Robert C. Braddock Field. The matchups are yet to be determined.
