Top GLIAC Contenders Stalemate in 1–1 Draw Between Cardinals and Roosevelt

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team earned a point with a 1-1 draw against Roosevelt Friday afternoon. The Cardinals (7–2–4, 6–2–1 GLIAC) trailed early in the second half before equalizing just 10 minutes later.

After a scoreless first half, the Lakers opened the scoring in the 51st minute. SVSU responded in the 60th minute as Eoin Farrell (Athy, Ireland / Ardscoil na Tríonóide) converted on the opportunity from Logan Kunnen (Jenison, Mich. / Unity Christian HS) to even the match.

The Cardinals controlled possession for much of the match, outshooting the Lakers 15–7 and earning 12 corner kicks to the hosts' three. SVSU had many chances down the stretch with a couple shots barely missing the target. Nick Kay (Walled Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Central HS) made two saves in goal, while SVSU's back line allowed only three shots on target.

Kolja Thomas (Butjadingen, Germany / Zinzendorschule Tossens) led the team with three shots but did not have one on target. Matty Telfer (Newcastle, England / Sunderland College), Ryan Bovee (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston HS), and Narcis Gavalda (Rossell, Spain / IES La Senia) all had two shots with one hitting their mark.
