KENOSHA, Wis. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team suffered a narrow 2–1 defeat on the road against Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday afternoon at Wood Road Field.
The Cardinals (5-2-3, 4-2-0 GLIAC) controlled much of the play, outshooting the Rangers 23–10 and earning nine corner kicks to Parkside's two, but a late goal in the 88th minute gave the hosts the win. After a scoreless first half, Parkside broke through in the 69th minute when Jamie Le Comte found the back of the net to put the Rangers ahead 1–0.
SVSU answered 10 minutes later as Logan Kunnen (Jenison, Mich. / Unity Christian HS) equalized with his first career goal, capitalizing off a loose ball in the box to make it 1–1 in the 79th minute. The tie was short-lived, however, as Parkside's Stefan Zekanovic scored the game-winner in the 88th minute to put the Rangers ahead for good.
Eoin Farrell (Athy, Ireland / Ardscoil na Tríonóide) led the Cardinals with four shots, two on goal, while Taro Aboubakary (Yokohama, Japan / Seiwa Gakuen HS) and Matty Telfer (Newcastle, England / Sunderland College) both had two shots on goal as well. Nick Kay (Walled Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Central HS) made two saves in goal. SVSU committed 11 fouls and received two yellow cards, while Parkside totaled 12 fouls and five cautions.
