UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team hosted a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games last week at James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena. The Cardinals fell to 17th ranked Ferris State University on Thursday and defeated Lake Superior State University on Saturday.
Delano Smith led SVSU in scoring in both games, as he finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, and three steals in the 82-71 loss to the Bulldogs on Thursday night. On Saturday against the Lakers, Smith scored 26 points on 11-of-20 shooting. He also added five rebounds and three assists, helping SVSU earn the 79-67 victory.
For his performances, the Novi, Mich., native has been named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week. The senior currently ranks seventh in the conference with 17.2 points per game.
The Cardinals host Wayne State University for a GLIAC matchup at 6 pm on Thursday at the O'Neill Arena.
