UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team is excited to announce the signing of two high school recruits for the Class of 2022. 

The Cardinal Men's Basketball program has signed Ethan Hill, a 6-8 Forward from Muskegon High School in Muskegon, Mich. As a junior for the Big Reds last season, he was First Team All-OK Conference and Detroit Free Press All-State Honorable Mention.

The coaching staff is thrilled to add the versatile big man to the Cardinals 2022 class, who many consider one of the top prospects in the state and who chose SVSU over Division 1 scholarship offers.

Coach Baruth had this to say: "Ethan has tremendous versatility with his size and length, and it is rare to find a 6-8 forward as skilled as Ethan. Not only can he stretch the defense to 3, but he is also a great passer and has the ability to rebound and lead the break. With our strength program and player development, we feel like Ethan has big-time upside as he continues to put the work in!"

Muskegon High School is a perennial powerhouse program on the west side of the state, led by Coach Keith Guy. Coach Guy is very proud of Ethan and how far he's come as a player and person: "We would like to thank Coach Baruth and Coach Twardecki for recruiting Ethan. I believe Saginaw Valley is getting an extremely talented player and an even better person. This is a perfect fit for Ethan and I'm so proud and excited he chose SVSU!"

The Cardinals also recently signed local sharp-shooter Elvis Machul from Saginaw Arthur Hill High School. As a leader for the Lumberjacks last year, Elvis averaged 13 points and five rebounds per game. He will join three other local guards currently on the SVSU roster in Tre Garrett (Bridgeport), Brian Booker (Heritage), and Freddie McIntosh (Saginaw High).

As one of the top guards in the Saginaw area going into his senior year, Coach Baruth is very excited to add the hometown product to the Cardinals 2022 class: "Elvis is a great fit for what we look for in our recruits; he is tough-nosed, competes, and is a gym rat. With those qualities and his ability to shoot it, he has the potential to be a great piece for what our program is building. We are looking forward to Elvis joining the Cardinal Family!"

The Lumberjacks of Arthur Hill are coached by Tony Davis, whose program is one of the most respected in the state. Coach Davis had this to say on Elvis staying home for college: "It's a great fit for Elvis. He will compete and fit right in with the culture. Having the other local guys as "big brothers" will help ease him in the transition. Elvis is a high IQ shooter and definitely a hard worker who wants to get better every day. We are excited to watch him at the next level at SVSU!"

The Cardinals are 4-2 this season and open the 2021-22 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season against No. 13 Grand Valley State University at 8 pm on Thursday in Allendale, Mich.
