Matty Telfer and
Jack Franklin were named the GLIAC Players of the Week for their performances against Parkside and Purdue Northwest last week. Telfer was named the offensive player of the week and Franklin earned the defensive nod by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Telfer earned his third GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week Award this season, and the fourth of his career after leading the Cardinals to two wins and sole possession of first place in the conference standings. The third year from New Castle, England, scored two goals, one in each match, as the Cardinals defeated Parkside 2-0 and Purdue Northwest 2-1. He is second in the league with 13 goals and 30 points on the year, while his four assists are fifth.
Franklin earned his first GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week Award after recording his first career start as a Cardinal this week. Franklin earned a clean sheet in his first career start, a 2-0 victory over UWP, and picked up the win in a 2-1 victory over PNW in goal for SVSU. He made nine saves, three against the Rangers and six against the Lions, including a few massive saves in the final 33 minutes against Purdue Northwest when the team was playing down a man to keep the one-goal lead. He also tallied an assist on two goals, one in both games, helping the team to their six-point weekend and first place in the conference heading into the final two matches of the season.
The Cardinals wrap up the 2026 regular season with road games against Davenport and Northern Michigan. SVSU faces the Panthers on Wednesday at 2 p.m., before traveling across the Mackinac Bridge to play the Wildcats on Sunday at noon.
