University Center - The Cardinals Men's Basketball Program is excited to announce the Christopher Jacobi Roundball 2024-25 Season Tip-off Event is set for Saturday, October 19th. The event is open to the public and will take place in O'Neill Arena inside the SVSU Ryder Center.
The men's team will be split into two teams for their annual Red vs White Scrimmage; teams will be announced at a later date. Fans are encouraged to wear either red or white to cheer on their team. Music will be provided by DJ Woo Beatz. At half time of the scrimmage, select players will participate in a dunk contest for the fans. Furthermore, there will be a 3-point contest following the scrimmage among a few players to bring extra excitement. At the conclusion, there will be an autograph session for our fans in attendance.
Next, a Roundball Luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. (ET) in the east side of the Arena. Admission to the Luncheon is free of charge. The Men's Basketball Program will be recognizing the 2023-24 seniors and accomplishments from last season during the Luncheon, along with hosting Oakland University Head Men's Basketball Coach Greg Kampe as a guest speaker. Coach Kampe is currently the longest-tenured men's basketball head coach at an NCAA Division 1 school and has amassed 675 career wins during his coaching career. Last season, Coach Kampe's Golden Grizzlies upset the University of Kentucky in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.
"This event has shaped up to be a big day for our Program and student-athletes," Cardinal Head Coach Randy Baruth said. "The Red vs White Scrimmage is always a fun showcase to allow our team to compete in front of family, friends, and fans for the first time this season. Then to be able to have Coach Kampe come and speak at our Roundball Luncheon is an exciting deal. He has had an incredible coaching journey and following his massive win over Kentucky last March Madness, I think everyone in attendance will enjoy hearing him speak."
