ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball program traveled to Grand Valley Friday night. The Cardinals (6-18, 3-10 GLIAC) fell in straight sets to Grand Valley (22-2, 11-2 GLIAC) with set scores of 25-17, 25-11, and 25-12.
SVSU was led by Sarah Veale with seven kills and six digs. Jackie Scheiber was the main second touch with 19 assists. Cola Sisk also had six digs along with four kills and the Cardinals lone ace. Makaylah Roberts had three kills along with four blocks.
Set One: Saginaw Valley 0, Grand Valley 1 (17-25)
The Cardinals started out with a 4-0 run to take a three-point lead. Grand Valley stormed back tying the set and taking the lead with a 5-0 run to go up 13-8. Both teams traded points as the Cardinals cut the lead to three before the Lakers finished off the set with a 5-0 run.
Set Two: Saginaw Valley 0, Grand Valley 2 (11-25)
SVSU held multiple small leads to start the set before GVSU took the first large lead with a 6-1 run to go up 10-5. After a couple of Laker attack errors, Grand Valley used a 6-1 run to push the advantage to double-digits, going up 17-7. They closed out on an 8-2 run to take a 2-0 set lead.
Set Three: Saginaw Valley 0, Grand Valley 3 (12-25)
The momentum stayed with the Lakers as they used a 9-0 run after an attack error to take an eight-point lead in the final set. Veale stopped the run with a kill but a 5-1 run made it an 11-point lead as the Lakers went up 14-3. A 5-2 run for Saginaw Valley cut the deficit to eight before the Lakers responded with a 6-1 run to go ahead 22-9. Ava Decker had back-to-back kills along with the final one for SVSU but a blocking error by the Cardinals ended the set and the match.
Up Next: Saginaw Valley volleyball heads to Wayne State Saturday, November 9 to face the Warriors in their final road match of the season. It is set to start at 4:00 PM EST in the Matthaei Center in Detroit, Michigan.
