UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team finds themselves in fifth on the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Association (GLIAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Cardinals finished 2022 with a 21-28 record overall and a 10-14 record in conference play.

In 2023, SVSU baseball welcomes a new head coach. Adam Piotrowicz joins the Cardinals from Western Michigan University where he served as the Associate Head Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, Hitting Coach, and Catching Coach for the Broncos' NCAA DI program since 2013. Piotrowicz is ready to get back out on the field.

"We've had a great month of pre-season practices and are excited to get going against outside competition. You can see the confidence level and expectations growing each day with this group," said Piotrowicz. "Our goal as a team is to stay committed to the process and focusing on building good daily habits. If we can continue to do this, we feel we'll be in a good position towards the end of the year when it's all said and done." 

The preseason poll is voted on by the coaches in the league who rank each team in the GLIAC from 1-6. Six points are given to the team at the top of the list, five to the second-place team, and so on to determine the order of the poll.

Davenport and Wayne State are tied for first with 23 points each, both programs getting three first-place votes. Grand Valley State sits in third with 17 points. Purdue Northwest edges out SVSU for fourth with 12 as the Cardinals have 10 points. Parkside rounds out the poll in sixth with five points.
