UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team picked up a 76-68 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday evening from James E O'Neill Jr. Arena.
Four Cardinals scored in double-figures as they moved to 16-7 overall and 10-5 in the GLIAC.
How it happened:
- The first half was a back-and-forth affair before the Cardinals took a seven-point lead with 9:32 remaining.
- Wisconsin-Parkside got back into it with 4:20 left in the half when they tied the game at 28-28 before SVSU took a 38-35 lead heading into the locker room. Delano Smith and James Toohey had 11 points each to lead the Cardinals at the half.
- SVSU opened up an eight-point lead in the second half after a made 3-pointer by Darnell Hoskins Jr.
- The Rangers tied the game at 56-56 with 10:58 left in the game before back-to-back 3-point baskets by Smith and Toohey put the Cardinals up by six points.
- SVSU stayed in front the rest of the way, leading by as many as nine points.
Inside the Box Score:
- Tyler Witz led the Cardinals with 18 points on 9-of-16 shooting. The senior also grabbed nine rebounds.
- Smith posted 17 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for a double-double.
- James Toohey scored 17 points, going 5-of-6 from deep.
- Freddie McIntosh added 11 points.
- SVSU was 28-of-56 from the field, 10-of-20 from 3-point range, and 10-of-14 from the free-throw line.
- The Rangers were led by Tray Croft, who led all scorers with 25 points.
