HAMMOND, Ind.--The Saginaw Valley State University women's volleyball team competed at the Midwest Region Crossover held Friday at the Hammond Sportsplex. SVSU lost in the opener to Walsh University, 25-20, 18-25, 24-26, 16-25, before bouncing back hours later to sweep Tiffin University 26-24, 25-17, 26-24.
Saginaw Valley currently stands 10-11 on the season.
Against Tiffin:
- Rylee Zimmer (.256) and Madison Thompson (.214) paced the SVSU offense with 15 and 11 kills, respectively.
- Teammate Elizabeth Bruschuk came off the bench to record a match- and career-high 12 digs.
- Makaylah Roberts hit .375 on seven kills, but used her talents to defend the net with a match-best seven total blocks for a personal record.
- As a team, the Cardinals had 12 blocks compared to seven for Tiffin.
- Zimmer added three service aces and four blocks.
- Peyton Gerstacker racked up 32 assists for the Cardinals, who outhit the Dragons .231 to .186.
- Despite getting outhit in the first set (.370 to .182), the Cardinals won by two points while taking advantage of four aces and five service errors.
Against Walsh:
- Thompson led the Cardinals attack with 12 kills, while Sarah Veale chipped in 10 terminations.
- SVSU erupted for a season-high 12 aces, but struggled with a .168 attack percentage.
- Patricia Pratt led the team at the service line with a match-best four aces and she added five blocks to top all student-athletes.
- Kelsey Vittitow, Gerstacker and Veale all had 10 digs.
- The Cavaliers recorded a .299 attack percentage, had more digs (57-44) and 21 more kills (60-39) than the Cardinals.
