Fifth-Ranked Cardinals Double Up Host Huskies in GLIAC Tilt, 4-2

ST. CLOUD, Minn.--The nationally-ranked Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team began its regular-season-ending four-game road swing Friday evening on a good note by doubling up host St. Cloud State University, 4-2, in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup.

The Cardinals, who are slotted fifth in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NCAA Division II poll, improve to 9-0-4 this fall, including 6-0-3 in the GLIAC. St. Cloud slips to 3-7-3 overall and 2-6-1 in the conference.

Jonathan Monney sparked the SVSU offense with a pair of goals and an assist, and his second tally of the contest into the upper-left corner snapped a 2-2 tie in the 75th minute.

Saginaw Valley got off to a fast start thanks to goals from Monney in the seventh minute and Benjamin Adamson in the 13th.

But the Huskies got a pair of goals late in the first half from Philip Caputo 2 minutes and 19 seconds apart to send the teams tied 2-2 at the intermission.

In the 83rd minute, Elliot Nottoli got an insurance goal for the Cardinals after taking a pass from Monney.

Besides the scoreboard, SVSU also enjoyed statistical advantages in corner kicks (5-4), shots (13-11) and shots on goal (9-3).

Saginaw Valley looks to keep its 13-game unbeaten streak alive on Sunday (11 a.m.) when the Cardinals travel to Fayette, Iowa, to face GLIAC opponent Upper Iowa University.
