UNIVERSITY CENTER -- SVSU Men's Basketball Head Coach Randy Baruth announced the addition of Justin Jacobson to his coaching staff for the 2020-2021 basketball season.
"We're very fortunate to have Justin join our program," Baruth said. "I'm very pleased that Justin brings a range of strengths and experiences as a coach that will benefit our players."
Jacobson recently was an assistant coach at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, where he directed player development, coordinated video breakdown and exchange, developed defensive strategies and oversaw the travel budget for the program.
He was the head coach and director of operations for the U.S. Basketball Academy based in Chengdu, China. This role included coaching a semi-professional team and overseeing more than 300 youth players.
At Eureka College, in Illinois, Jacobson assisted with monitoring the academic performance of the players on the team. He also handled video and player development duties for Eureka College, an NCAA Division III program.
Jacobson broke into collegiate coaching at Illinois Valley Community College. Prior to that opportunity, he was a coach, administrator and teacher in Illinois.
Jacobson earned a master's degree in event and sports management and completed a bachelor's degree in political science.
"I am honored to join the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals men's basketball program," Jacobson said. "This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for me to represent a great program.
I want to thank Coach Baruth and the administration for their professionalism and communication throughout the search process.
I cannot wait to begin building relationships with our players and their families, help our team improve on the court and contribute to building upon our team culture. I also look forward to recruiting future classes to SVSU."
