UNIVERSITY CENTER -- The Saginaw Valley State University Track & Field and Cross Country programs are set to release their All-Decade Team when the new year hits. We will be releasing the top performances for each year every day until January 1 when the All-Decade Team is announced.
Seventh on our list for 2016 and the top performance of that season for the Cardinals is Robert Atwater. Atwater, who is a native of Detroit, Michigan and was a jumper for SVSU, earned two All-American honors during his track & field career in the high jump.
Top Performance of 2016 - Robert Atwater
Robert Atwater earned a pair of All-American finishes in the high jump, one during each season. Atwater finished 6th during the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, followed by a 7th place finish at the Outdoor Championships. In the summer of 2016, Atwater would go on to participate in the US Olympic trials. His Indoor school record still stands, which is a mark of 7' 2.50".
