UNIVERSITY CENTER - The SVSU baseball team finished-off a series victory at home over the Tiffin University Dragons, sealing three victories on Monday (Apr. 10) to take 3-of-4 against the GLIAC foe. The Cardinals finished the final two innings of Sunday's nightcap, claiming a 15-12 victory. SVSU then continued to post convincing 12-6 and 11-1 wins in the final two games of the series.
Game Two - Continuation from Sunday w/ Cardinals leading 15-10
Tiffin struck for two runs in the top of the 8th before a 40-minute lightning delay would halt play again. The Cardinals locked-in after that, sealing a 15-12 victory to even the series at one game-apiece after the win.
Inside the Boxscore
- Colton Brooks had a huge game for the Cardinals, finishing 4-4 with two home runs, a double, eight RBI and a walk. He scored two runs.
- Craig Wilson, Chad Carson and Brendan Harrison all added two hits, with Harrison adding an RBI.
- Mason Schwellenbach had his first career home run in the game as well.
- Adam Fitzgibbon had a hit and two RBI for SVSU.
On the Mound
- Jason Clark (1-1) picked up his first collegiate victory, working 2.0 innings while allowing a single run on two hits. He struck-out two batters and walked one.
- Jake Tarbell notched his fourth save of the season, pitching the final 1.1 innings. He struck-out one batter while allowing zero hits or runs.
Game Three
Tiffin held a 5-1 lead after two innings, with the Cardinals' lone run coming when Harrison ripped an RBI single to score Wilson in the bottom of the 1st.
Saginaw Valley responded in a big way, pushing 11 unanswered runs across to grab the 21-5 lead. The Cards got two in the bottom of the 4th when Jordan Swiss scored on a wild pitch. Wilson then added an RBI groundout that scored Brooks.
In the bottom of the 5th, the team went for six more runs, using a Swiss three-run shot, Fitzgibbon RBI single and Wilson double that scored two.
The three runs in the 6th came when Brooks had an RBI single, Fitzgibbon scored on a double steal and Brooks scored on a Collin Winters double to left field.
The Dragons added a lone run in their half of the 7th, the SVSU would close-out for the 12-6 final score victory.
Inside the Boxscore
- Swiss was 3-3 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.
- Wilson was 2-5 with a double, three RBI and a run.
- Winters, Harrison and Fitzgibbon all had two hits as well with an RBI. Winters and Harrison scored once while Fitzgibbon had two runs.
On the Mound
- Alex Millhisler (1-1) got the victory in relief, working 3.0 innings. He allowed a single hit and two walks with zero runs.
- Brandon Wise tossed the final 2.0 innings of the game, giving up an unearned run on one hit, allowing a walk as well.
Game Four
In the fourth and final game of the series, Saginaw Valley scored 10 unanswered runs to take the 10-0 lead after six innings.
The Cardinals got two runs in the 3rd, using a Carson RBI single and Harrison sacrifice fly.
In the 4th, Brooks hit his fourth home run of the weekend, nailing a solo shot to right center to give SV the 3-0 edge.
The bottom of the 6th would see the home squad add seven runs, pushing the lead out to 10-0. The big blow of the inning came when Adam Turner hit a grand slam, scoring Harrison, Carson and Wilson for the runs.
The Dragons scored in the top of the 8th to draw the score to 10-1, but SV responded with a Swiss sac fly that plated Turner in the bottom of the inning to make it 11-1. That is where the final score remained, giving the Cardinals three out of four victories.
Inside the Boxscore
- Carson was the only Cardinal with two hits in the final game. He was 2-5 with an RBI and run scored.
- Brooks and Turner each had a home run, with Turner notching four RBI with his grand slam.
- Fitzgibbon and Swiss each had a double as well in the game.
On the Mound
- Schwellenbach (2-2) got his second victory of his freshman campaign after allowing a single run on four hits, striking-out four batters in 8.0 innings of work.
- Tristan Faunce sealed the win after pitching the ninth inningallowing just two hits.
