ASHLAND, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team is set to face Grand Valley State University on Saturday (Mar. 4) afternoon in the 2017 GLIAC Women's Basketball Tournament Semifinals. The Cardinals and Lakers will play in the second game of the day, featuring a 4:00 p.m. tip-off from Ashland University's Kates Gymnasium.
Saginaw Valley (22-6) is the No. 2 overall seed in the tournament while the Lakers (22-6) are the No. 3 seed. The winner of this contest will face the winner of the Ashland versus Michigan Tech contest, which tips at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. SV advanced to the semifinal round after Tuesday evening's 62-45 home victory over Northern Michigan University.
Saturday's game is a rematch of the 2016 GLIAC Tournament Semifinals in Ashland, where GVSU came away with the victory. The Cardinals have notched 22 victories for the second straight season and posted 17 conference wins for the second year in a row as well. The 22 victories are the most in the NCAA Division II era for the program, while the 17 GLIAC victories in each season are a program record.
In the most recent NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Rankings, releases on Wednesday, the Cardinals were listed in the No. 3 slot for the third straight week.
