BAY CITY, Mich. - The SVSU baseball team has been chosen to finish sixth in the annual GLIAC Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Cardinals appear in the No. 6 slot with 51 points, three points behind fifth place Northwood. Grand Valley State received seven first place votes and 94 points to finish first and Wayne State has 85 points with a single first place nod in the No. 2 slot. Ashland got three first place votes and 81 points to finish third. Walsh received 73 points and is listed at the No. 4 spot.

2017 Saginaw Valley State Preview
The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team looks to rebound from a 22-28 2016 campaign in which the Cardinals missed out on the annual GLIAC Postseason Tournament for the second consecutive season. In the mix on the field this year for the Cards will be a strong group poised for a solid 2017 season.
Returning to anchor the SVSU pitching staff will be senior lefty Scott Sency, who is a two-time All-GLIAC honoree and is coming off a season in which he posted a 4.97 ERA and 5-4 record. He posted 70 strikeouts in 63.1 innings pitched.
Saginaw Valley returns three position players as well that hit over .300 in 2016, led by GLIAC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-GLIAC performer in shortstop Jordan Swiss. Sophomore infielder Brendan Harrison (.329) and sophomore center fielder Adam Fitzgibbon (.314) also return after solid 2016 performances. Fitzgibbon earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention honors as well. Veterans Chad Carson (UTL) and Garrett Soule (3B) return as well, coming off good offensive seasons for the Cardinals.
