BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University senior forward Emily Wendling has been named the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week for the second time this season after leading the Cardinals to a pair of road victories over GLIAC South opponents this past weekend.
Wendling had a big weekend for the Cardinals, keeping them atop the GLIAC North Division standings after averaging 17.0 ppg and 6.0 rpg in road wins at Findlay and Walsh. Wendling shot 56.5% from the floor and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line on the weekend. Her 20-point, eight rebound, three assist and one block performance in the win at Findlay marked her seventh 20-plus showing of the season.
Saginaw Valley remains atop the GLIAC North Division standings with a 6-1 league record and 10-3 mark overall. The Cards host Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech this weekend as the team opens North Division play. They play the Wildcats Thursday (1/12) at 6:00 p.m. before facing the Huskies Saturday (1/14) in a 1:00 p.m. showdown. Both teams sit a game behind SVSU in the league standings.
