BAY CITY, Mich. - SVSU senior volleyball student-athlete Kaylee Schmitt has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week after her performance over the weekend at the Point Loma Invitational in San Diego, California.
Schmitt posted a .348 hitting percentage, averaging 3.42 kills per set in leading the Cardinals to a 2-2 record at the tournament. The registered double-digit figures in kills twice, both on Saturday, with the highest number of 15 coming in the team's match against host Point Loma Sea Lions. She added 10 blocks as well and five service aces, earning her all-tournament honors.
Saginaw Valley split on both days of the tournament, posting 3-0 opening victories over Chadron State and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Cards fell in matches to California Baptist (3-0) and Point Loma (3-1) on the second match of each day.
