UNIVERSITY CENTER - SVSU men's basketball head coach Randy Baruth has announced the promotion of Kalen Foreman as an assistant coach on the staff for the upcoming 2016-17 season. Foreman, who served as a student assistant on the staff during the team's historic 2015-16 season, will take over as an assistant coach for the Cardinals.

Foreman joins a program that is fresh off the most successful in program history, which resulted in the team's first-ever Midwest Regional Championship and trip to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. The 2015-16 Cardinals tied a school record with 25 victories and had a record 18 GLIAC wins. The team claimed the GLIAC regular season championship as well, the fourth-ever for the program and first since 1984-85. This past year's title also was the first since joining the ranks of the NCAA Division II level. 

"We are excited to add Kalen Foreman to our staff here at SVSU," stated Baruth. "He has made incredible improvement in the stages of his development, first being a player here for three years, and then as a student assistant this past season. This transition into one of our assistant coaches only validates our belief that he will continue to help us lead our team to even more future success. Kalen will be pursuing his master's degree while serving in this role as well, something that we are the most proud of!"

Foreman was a member of the SVSU men's basketball squad during the 2012-13 through 2014-15 seasons, where he played under Baruth and his staff.

"It is an honor to be added to this Cardinal men's basketball coaching staff," added Foreman. "I am looking forward to helping guide this program in the right direction and working under Coach Baruth, as he is a great leader and teacher of the game."
