EUGENE, Ore. - Saginaw Valley State University track & field student-athlete Robert Atwater has been selected to participate in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, which will take place at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Atwater, a two-time first team all-american for the Cardinals in his first collegiate season, will enter the men's open high jump with a seed height of 2.20 meters (7'2.5"). He achieved that mark in the 2016 GLIAC Indoor Championships, claiming a GLIAC title en route to being named the Freshman of the Meet for field events.
Robert would go on to finish sixth in the NCAA Indoor Championships in the high jump for his first all-american plaudit before following that up with a seventh place showing at the outdoor championships. He earned Freshman of the Meet for field events at the GLIAC Outdoor Championship as well, placing third in the high jump and fourth in the long jump.
Atwater will compete in the Olympic Trials on Friday, July 8 at 4:00 p.m. If he qualifies for the finals, that will take place on Sunday, July 10 at 3:00 p.m. All times are Pacific.
