BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University senior women's basketball student-athlete Emily Wendling has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Basketball North Division Player of the week after leading the Cardinals to a pair of victories to open GLIAC play.

Wendling led SVSU to a pair of victories over Hillsdale and Lake Erie to open league play for the 2016-17 season. She had a stellar weekend, averaging 23.0 ppg and 8.5 rpg in the two victories. She had a 20-point, nine rebound game with three blocks and a steal in the team's 73-48 win over Hillsdale Thursday before adding a season-high 26 with eight boards and a pair of steals in Saturday's 87-58 victory over Lake Erie.

Saginaw Valley is off to its best start since the 2003-04 campaign with its 6-1 record and will travel to Ohio for a pair of games versus GLIAC South Division opponents in Ashland and Tiffin. The Cards face the Eagles Thursday (Dec. 8) at 5:30 p.m. before taking on the Dragons on Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. tilt.
