BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball student-athlete Emily Wendling has been selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week for the third time this season.

Wendling had a huge weekend in leading the Lady Cardinals to a 2-0 record, recording victories over GLIAC opponents Malone University and Walsh University.

Emily posted a season-high 31 points and added 14 rebounds in Saturday's 82-69 victory over Malone, adding one blocked shot. She followed up that performance with one equally as impressive in Sunday's 80-72 overtime win over Walsh, scoring 29 points and grabbing a season-high 15 boards. Wendling added four assists and three blocks in that contest while playing in 42 of 45 minutes. She went 9-of-9 from the free throw line against the Cavaliers as well, part of a perfect 19-for-19 team effort from the charity stripe.

Her 31 point effort marked the third 30-plus point game of her career and her two double-doubles gives her six on the season, as she has three consecutive as well. She now has 26 career double-doubles, racking-up 10 each in the 2012-13 and 2014-15 seasons.

Wendling continues to lead the GLIAC in scoring with 21.6 ppg, over five points per game more than the next player. She is second in rebounding with 10.4 rpg and also in field goal percentage, where she is shooting at a 63.2% clip. Emily ranks sixth in the league in blocks per game as well, putting up a 1.4 per game average.

Nationally, Wendling is sixth with her 63.2 field goal percentage, seventh with 98 field goals made and eighth with her 21.6 scoring average.

Saginaw Valley is now 7-4 overall on the season and 4-2 in the GLIAC, already matching their league win total from last season and just two shy of their overall mark from the 2014-15 season through just 11 games.

The Cards hit the road this weekend, playing at the University of Findlay Thursday (Jan. 7) at 5:30 p.m. before playing at Wayne State University on Saturday (Jan. 9) in a 3:00 p.m. matchup.
