BAY CITY - Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer student-athletes Tyler Channell and Aleksandar Isaevski earned the GLIAC Player of the Week sweep for the Cardinals after a pair of impressive road victories to open the new year under first-year head coach Andy Wagstaff.
Channell had a huge weekend in leading the No. 18 Cardinals to a pair of opening regional victories at Lewis and Wisconsin-Parkside. Channell assisted on all three goals in the team's 3-0 victory over the Flyers on Friday before adding another two in the team's 4-1 victory over the Rangers on Sunday.
Isaevski had a big weekend in helping lead the Cards to a 2-0 record on the road against regional opponents Lewis and Wisconsin-Parkside. Isaevski was instrumental defensively in the team's 3-0 shutout over the Flyers on Friday. In the 4-1 win over the Rangers on Sunday, he was solid defensively and added a goal on his only shot of the weekend and an assist off a corner kick. The SVSU defense allowed just one goal on the week and five shots on goal.
The Cardinals will carry their 2-0 record into their first GLIAC contest Friday at Northwood University. The match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. in Midland, Michigan.
