UNIVERSITY CENTER - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball program, coming off its most successful season since the school made the transition to the NCAA Division II level, has added a pair of recruits for the upcoming 2015-16 basketball season.

The Cardinals welcome guards Mike Wells and Malik Garner to the program, a pair of standout guards that will prove to add talent to a resurgent men's basketball program at SVSU.

"We are excited to have Malik Garner and Mike Wells added to our Cardinal Basketball Family," said SVSU Head Coach Randy Baruth.  "Malik and Mike have good basketball talents that can help improve our back court depth, but mostly they are humble young men of high character with a team-oriented attitude"

Mike Wells 

Guard, 5-8, 170, Delaware, Ohio / Albany

Mike lettered four years at Delaware Hayes High School in Delaware, Ohio before attending St. Thomas More Prep in Connecticut.  During his time at Delaware, Wells was named AP Third Team All-State, the Ohio Capital Conference "Player of the Year," First Team All-Metro, All-Central District First Team, Columbus Dispatch First Team and graduated as the school's all-time leading scorer.  Wells was a McDonald's All-American finalist as well and played his freshman year at Division I University at Albany.

"Mike is a quick point guard that will be able to pressure the ball defensively and get in the lane offensively.  He comes to us with college experience, having been a member of the Albany basketball program.  We're excited to have him join out backcourt!"

Malik Garner

Guard, 5-11, 165, Midland, Mich. / Sunrise Christian Academy

Malik lettered three years at Midland Dow High School before playing at Citrus Park Christian Academy in Tampa, Florida for his senior year.  Garner then spent a year at the Sunrise Christian Academy in Wichita Kansas, a college preparatory school with a nationally-ranked basketball program.  He earned First Team All-Saginaw Valley League and All-Midland Daily News his junior year, as well as Saginaw Valley League Honorable Mention his sophomore campaign.  The two-time team MVP was an honor roll student all four years of high school.

"Malik joins our program from Sunrise Christian Academy, a highly-decorated program in Kansas.  He played against some of the best players in the country in his time there.  His shooting ability and quickness will help us greatly at the point guard spot."
