Women's Tennis Stong in 9-0 Sweep Over Lawrence Tech

MIDLAND – The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team ran its winning streak to four matches after posting a 9-0 sweep over Lawrence Tech University on Saturday (Mar. 28) afternoon at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.

The ladies had a stellar performance in doubles, dropping just a single point in the matches played at the #1 and #2 positions with some different combinations.  SVSU added a victory at #3 doubles play by default against the program in its first season of competition.   The Cardinals were equally as impressive in singles, sweeping for the 9-0 score.

Izabella Ismailova and Meghan Woody teamed up at #1 doubles for the 8-1 victory and their performance was followed up by an 8-0 decision for Lauren Sharp and Abigail Shonk at the #2 position.

Erin Doud, who didn't compete in doubles, claimed her first-ever win at #1 singles in a close match.  She had scores of 6-1, 2-6, finishing things off with a 10-2 third set tiebreaker victory.

Shea Donahue was victorious at #2 singles as well, posting a 6-2, 6-1 advantage.

From there, SV didn't allow another point.  Sharp, Shonk and Danielle Slonac all had clean 6-0, 6-0 sweeps at #3, #4 and #5 singles, respectively.  Mikayla Kazdan won by default at #6 singles due to the lack of players for the opponent.

"Our team did a great job of staying focused in today's match," said Head Coach Jenn Boehm.  "Lawrence Tech is a newly formed team with some good players and our girls had to play well to achieve the results they posted."

The four consecutive wins for the team is the most since the 2005-06 season, a year when the program rattled-off nine in a row to finish the season.

Saginaw Valley returns to the courts Sunday (Mar. 29) as it hosts Davenport University in an 11:00 am match at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.
