BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball student-athlete Emily Wendling (Flushing, Mich. / Flushing HS) has been chosen as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week for Week No. 2.
Wendling had a big weekend in leading SVSU to a 2-0 record at the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge, hosted by Missouri S&T. Wendling scored 24 points and added nine rebounds in the team's 85-49 victory Friday over LeMoyne-Owen before adding 17 points with eight boards in Saturday's 61-47 win over the host Miners. She was 70.4% (19-of-27) from the floor in the two contests.
Wendling is averaging 19.5 ppg and 10.3 rpg for the Lady Cardinals through the first four games. She sits second in the GLIAC in scoring and fourth in rebounds. Her 67.3% field goal percentage ranks her fourth as well.
The Lady Cardinals are back in action again on Saturday (Nov. 28) as they travel to play at Purdue University Calumet. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. eastern time in Hammond, Indiana.
