UNIVERSITY CENTER - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team is welcoming back the 1984-85 team, honoring the squad for the 30th-Anniversary of the team that claimed the GLIAC Championship and qualified for the NAIA District Tournament.  

The Cardinals went 25-4 with a 15-1 mark in the GLIAC that season.  Three Cardinals earned All-GLIAC honors during the season, with James Preston being named the GLIAC Most Valuable Player and teammates Dan Farley and Mark Oates joining him on the 10-man squad as well.  Farley and teammate Steve Schmok earned All-GLIAC Defensive Team honors during the 1984-85 campaign to go along with the other honors.

Farley would go on to be named an NAIA First Team All-American for his play as well, while Preston was named to the All-American Honorable Mention squad.

The 1984-85 team will join the current 2014-15 team and staff for a dinner on Friday night and participate in a reception following the dinner.  On Saturday, the individuals will be joining the Cardinals during shootaround prior to their matchup with Ferris State University and will be honored during halftime of the matchup of the teams tied for first place in the GLIAC.

"This is a great opportunity for our program, department and University as a whole to honor a tremendous  group of individuals who came together to form one of the greatest Saginaw Valley men's basketball teams in history," said current SVSU Head Coach Randy Baruth.  "Dr. Pratt and his team laid a solid foundation that we still stand on here at SVSU, as we continue to strive for the amount of success achieved by his teams."

Dr. Robert Pratt compiled a record of 394-295 in 24 years at Saginaw Valley and is by far the winningest coach in program history.  His teams claimed three GLIAC Championships ('79-80,'82-83, '84-85) and participated in 10 NAIA District 23 tournaments and twice made it to the NAIA National Tournament ('79-80, '85-86). 

Game times for Saturday's GLIAC doubleheader are at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.  The men follow the Lady Cardinals, who are slated for the 1 pm start time.
