UNIVERSITY CENTER - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team opens up its home and GLIAC schedule with two tough contests this weekend.

The Cardinals are at home for the first time in 2014 after a season-opening trip to San Diego, California.  The team returns with a 3-1 record at the Seaside Invitational, hosted by Point Loma University.

SVSU defeated Cal State Dominguez, 3-0 and Fresno Pacific by a score of 3-1 on the first day of the invitational.  The Cards opened the final day with a 3-1 victory over Azusa Pacific before falling to the tournament hosts, Point Loma by a 3-0 count.

Saginaw Valley hosts the #15 Ferris State Bulldogs on Friday (9/12) at 7:00 pm.  The Bulldogs are 2-2 on the young season.  Ferris State returns from the Tampa Invitational in Tampa, Florida with wins over Tusculum and Indianapolis.

On Saturday (9/13), the Cardinals host rival and #18-ranked Grand Valley State at 2:00 pm.  The Lakers completed play at the Oredigger Classic in Golden, Colorado with a 2-2 record.  GVSU defeated Minnesota State Moorhead and Dominican (Cal.) in their season-opening weekend.

The Cards look to carry their good play into the GLIAC portion of their schedule with the first four matches coming at home.
