UNIVERSITY CENTER - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team is ranked #4 nationally in the first NSCAA/Continental Tire Division II poll of the season.
Saginaw Valley is 2-0-0 after posting a pair of impressive victories over #15 Lewis and Cedarville. The Cardinals defeated Lewis Thursday (9/4) 2-0 and the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville in double-overtime by a score of 1-0 on Saturday (9/6) afternoon.
The Cardinals have been led by freshman goal keeper Alexandre Bouillennec who has stopped every shot that has come his way this year. Another freshman, Matthew Lang has led the Cardinals offensively, posting two goals in the early season. Lang was named the GLIAC Offensive "Player of the Week" for his efforts this past week, which included the double-overtime winner against Cedarville.
The team returns to action on Friday (9/12) against rival Northwood University at Braddock Field at 3:30 pm. The Timberwolves are 2-0-0 after posting early season victories over Indianapolis and Marygrove. This will be the first GLIAC contest for both the Cardinals and Timberwolves.
