Green Participates in NCAA Career in Sports Forum

UNIVERSITY CENTER – Saginaw Valley State University Women's Basketball player Alex Green participated in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Career in Sports Forum held June 5th - 8th at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana. Green was one of only 200 athletes selected nationwide to attend the event.

Throughout the four days, student-athletes learned and explored potential careers in sports with an emphasis on intercollegiate athletics. The sports forum was created to assist student-athletes in charting career paths available within the business and administration of collegiate sports as well as coaching. During the forum, Green and the other invitees participated in interactive sessions to discuss areas such as core values, effective networking, and day-to-day responsibilities of successful individuals within the sports business. Along with the interactive experience, participants also heard from numerous keynote speakers. Among these speakers were the University of Tennessee's Women's Athletic Director Emeritus, Joan Cronan, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association President, Dr. Mark Emmert. Others included various athletic directors and head coaches from universities across the country. Green had nothing but great things to say about her experience at the forum.

"I enjoyed every minute of it and I was proud to represent Saginaw Valley State," Green said. "It was an experience that I have already taken so much from. It's amazing that so many different types of people can come together at one venue and become so connected because of athletics. I learned a great deal during the interactive sessions about how important it is to establish my core values and to start charting my career path."

Green continued, "I was able to network with many great individuals who are athletic directors and a few who are in charge of hosting the NCAA championships. That was a big deal to me because that's my dream, to be a part of a college athletic program. Talking to so many successful people gave me great insight on what I need to do to achieve my goals, and I'll definitely be staying in contact with those people. Overall, it was an experience that I'm 100% happy and honored that I was able to attend."
