Men's Soccer Secures Third NCAA Postseason Appearance in Four Years

UNIVERSITY CENTER - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team will once again be taking part in the NCAA Division II National Tournament, securing a berth in the annual tournament for the third time in the past four years.  The announcement came on Sunday evening via live stream on NCAA.com.

The Cardinals will face a very familiar foe in the opening round, as the #3 regionally-ranked Saginaw Valley team will square-off against the #2 Northwood University Timberwolves.  It will be the fourth meeting between the teams of the 2014 season and the third in the past two weeks.  The quarterfinal matchup is set for Sunday (11/16) at 1:00 in Midland.

The Cards (13-4-2) dropped a tough 1-0 contest to the T-Wolves (14-3-1) in the last meeting, which was the 2014 GLIAC Tournament Championship match on Sunday, November 9th.  In the teams' regular season matchups, the programs played to a 0-0 draw at SVSU on September 12th and the Timberwolves recorded a 2-1 overtime victory over the Cardinals on Halloween.

The last time Saginaw Valley qualified for the NCAA Tournament was in 2012, when the Cardinals made an incredible run to the National Championship Game, where it fell by a narrow 3-2 margin to Lynn University.  That season, SVSU posted a program-record 18 victories.
