MIDLAND - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team fell in its opening match of the 2014 GLIAC Women's Tennis Tournament to the Wayne State University Warriors by a score of 5-0.
The Cardinals went down 3-0 after doubles despite great performances at the #2 and #3 doubles positions. After Wayne State grabbed the lead with a victory at #1 doubles, the last two doubles matchups went the distance.
Izabella Ismailova and Danielle Slonac dropped a 9-8 decision in the #2 doubles position and the #3 doubles team of Lauren Sharp and Shea Donahue fell by the same slim 9-8 margin.
The Warriors closed things out with victories at the #2 and #4 singles position, sealing the match with their fifth point.
WSU stays unbeaten at 13-0 on the season while SVSU falls to 4-9 after the contest.
Saginaw Valley returns to the courts against Ferris State University at 3:45 pm on Saturday. The Bulldogs claimed the only meeting between the teams earlier this season, winning by a 5-4 margin on September 14th at SVSU.
