Men's Golf Team Participates In Community Engagement Efforts

BAY CITY, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team participated in a pair of events as part of the program's ongoing efforts to become more involved with the local community.

The team hosted a Clinic and Skills Competition for the inner-city youth on August 28th at their home course, the Bay City Country Club.

This past Tuesday and Wednesday (9/24-9/25) the team also gave back to their home course, chipping-in with some manual labor and brooming-in the sand on the greens after the Club aerated the areas.

The aerification process is a type of preventative maintenance to keep greens healthy, in where holes are punched in the ground to relieve soil compression and increase the amount of oxygen that reaches the roots of the grass.  Most courses top-dress the areas with sand that needs to be broomed into the holes.

"It's a good way for our guys to give back to the community and help those who support us," said SVSU Head Golf Coach Joe Vogl.  "The Bay City Country Club is a beautiful course that we get to call home and this is the least our team could do to aide in the effort of keeping it that way."
